Hang Dry vs Tumble Dry

My husband and my daughter's boyfriend singing sweet victory.
The dryer broke, but nobody panicked.  For about 3 weeks, our family dried clothes by other means: using a relative's dryer a couple of miles away and also hang drying like our ancestors, hehe.

It seems the motor was the culprit.  The machine turned on, but the drum wouldn't spin.  Someone finally came out to assess the situation and found that the motor did need fixing.  However, the back panel was throwing the dryer's balance off and since there would've been an extra charge for getting to it, we elected to fix that issue ourselves.

Now, what I found was that hang drying is not really burdensome at all.  I actually enjoyed it.
  1. If you use 1/2 the amount of soap that the detergent label calls for, your clothes won't be as stiff.  It's said that we use far too much soap, and that this is what causes the stiffness when hang drying.
  2. If you use vinegar during the rinse cycle, your clothes come out fluffier.
  3. If you hang dry, your clothes will inevitably last longer.
  4. If you shake your clothes out after washing, your clothes will dry softer.
The blessing is we are back in business.  Going forward, we'll be more confident with alternative options ;)
